(9th Grade) Yellow-Stripe Belt Exam

1) "Basic Stances:" (all ages)

- Attention Stance
- Bowing Stance
- Parallel Ready Stance
- Walking Stance (bringing right foot back)
- Sitting Stance (hands at side)
- R. L-Stance, R. Forearm Guarding Block


2) Kicking Techniques: (all ages)

(3 X right side , 3X left side)
a) Back-Leg Snap-Kick
b) Back Leg Turning Kick.
c) Back Leg Crescent-Kick.


2) Patterns:

Saju-Makgi (16 Moves) and Saju Jirugi (14 moves) (Adults and Children - 10 years and older).
Saju-Jirugi (14 moves) (children 9 years old and under).


3) Honsinsul (Hapkido): (adults, 10 years old and older, only)

a) Defence against R. single-handed cross wrist grab (escape, strike, takedown, joint lock, l. and r. side).
b) Defence against two handed-wrist grab from front (pull opp. into you, strike, release, "Hapkido f. stance") (l. and r. side)
c) Defence against R. punch to face (side-step, deflection, double ridgehand strike, takedown, joint lock)
d) Demonstrate two nak-bup (break-falling) exercises: (L. or R. Shoulder Roll, Back-Roll, or Side Roll).


4) "Three-Step" Sparring: (Adults and Children over 10)

-sets 1 and 2 (Adults, 15 years and over)
-sets 1 and 2 (children 10 to 14)
Children under 10: "Step and Punch" (from Walking Stance, Low Forearm block) (4X - forwards and backwards).


5) Free-Sparring:

(not required for all 9th Gup candidates)


6) Knowledge of Art: (answer any three questions)

1. What does Yellow signify in Taekwon-Do ? (signifies the earth from which a seed sprouts and takes root, as the Taekwon-Do foundation is being laid.)
2. Name the six tenets of Taekwon-Do? (Courtesy, Integrity, Loyalty, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit).
3. Who is the founder and president of the Global Taekwon-Do Federation ? (Grandmaster Park Jung Tae)
4. In what country was Taekwon-Do founded ? (South Korea)
5. Name the belt colours of Taekwon-Do ? (white, yellow, green, blue, red and black)
6. What does White signify in Taekwon-Do? (signifies innocence; as that of a beginner student with no previous knowledge of Taekwon-Do)
7. Demonstrate how to tie a belt, properly.
